Manchester Roadworks Home
We're digging up the roads
As part of our £8 million investment to improve Manchester’s water supply, we’re replacing the old Victorian pipes with new plastic ones. And this means some roadworks. We know it’s a pain, but soon the city will have even better quality water and fewer leaks - so it will be worth it.
Corroded cast iron water pipes can cause low water pressure and harmless discolouration. The new plastic pipes will prevent this and once they're in, we won't need to replace them for ages.

What it means for you
We’re working in a carefully co-ordinated way to make sure that congestion is kept to a minimum and you can continue to get around as painlessly as possible. The work will be carried out in phases until late 2010, and will happen in different areas at different times to stagger the changes. Please register to be kept informed on how the road works will affect you. We will be sending email updates as we move around the city.
When and where is it happening?
The aproximate dates and locations of the work are outlined in the map below. A more detailed breakdown of the work to be carried out, is provided in Area A and Area B. Latest updates provides current information on where the roadworks are and the diversions in place.
Our plans may change. Please register or bookmark this page for the latest information.
We know the disruptions are a pain but it’ll be worth it in the end.
