£8 million upgrade to improve the River Tame
As part of our commitment to improve the river water quality and clean up the River Tame, over the next 2 years we are planning to build approximately 15 storm overflows across the Dukinfield and Stalybridge area.
Work will involve upgrading parts of the sewer network as well as building new storm overflows, which will mean that in the event of heavy rain instead of the sewer overflowing and causing flooding to highways, gardens and properties, the overflow will be stored until the weather subsides, screened for debris and then discharged directly into the local watercourse, helping to keep the river clean.
By working closely with Tameside Council and Highways it is intended to keep disruption within the area to a minimum. Construction work started in May 2010 with is now anticipated to be complete by spring 2012. For more details on the work in your area please click on 'Where and when are we working'.
We will continue to keep you up to date on this project which we consider to be great news for Dukinfield and Stalybridge.
